Mary Bauer, Pastor
Pastor Bauer graduated in May of 2008 from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. Even though she was not raised in the Lutheran tradition, she has had a life-long association with Lutheranism. This tie has included attending Luther League in high school, being part of “Come Together” (a high-school musical outreach group), going to Gustavus Adolphus College and being part of the Lutheran Youth Encounter outreach teams while there, and being a member of a Lutheran Youth Encounter international team that spent six months in West Africa. She was born in Moose Lake, Minn. and was the youngest and only girl in a family with five children. Her college major was a general science distributive with a minor in French. She capped off her college years by marrying Michael Bauer one week after graduation. During their early years of their marriage, she completed her teaching certificate in physical science (teaching high school physics and chemistry). This was followed closely by beginning a family, and becoming a stay-at-home mom. Church was always an important part of their family life, and she and her husband were particularly active in the music ministries. It was during this involvement that Pastor Bauer felt a call into full-time ministry. Her husband and children were incredibly supportive during the seven years (six of them as a seminary student) from call to graduation.Pastor Bauer lives in Waupaca with her husband, Michael, who is a family doctor. They have three children. Aaron is a student at the University of Wisconsin; Tyler is a student at Edgewood College; and Sarah is in high school. Music continues to be an important part of their life. Other hobbies include gardening, reading, quilting, biking and playing board games with the family.
I Corinthians 2:2-5:
“For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified ... so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.”
Michael Dismer, Pastor
Pastor Dismer hails from Iowa and was educated at St. Olaf College and Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and ordained into the ministry of Word and Sacrament. For more than 20 years he has served congregations in Idaho and Nebraska. He has served as pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in American Falls, ID, since 1999. He has been active in outdoor ministry for many years and serves on the ELCA National Outdoor Ministry Board. He also has served as the director of an adult retreat center in England. While there, he worked with the exiled bishop of Damaraland, Namibia, to care for Namibian exiles. This has given Pastor Dismer a strong sense of biblical justice and the call for all Christians to work for peace and justice throughout the world. The many gifts which Pastor Dismer brings to ministry include faithful preaching and worship leadership, evangelism, youth ministry, pastoral ministry and music. He has a strong sense that local congregations have much to share with those who do not yet participate in church life. Pastor Dismer also values the importance of connecting with congregation members through visits to homes, work places, hospitals and nursing homes. He often has sung in the adult choir in congregations that he’s served, and also plays trumpet, French horn and hand bells. He lives an active, healthy lifestyle that includes walking, biking, swimming, hunting and training dogs for hunting. He and his wife, Karen, live in Neenah. They have two adult children who live in the Washington, D.C. area: a daughter, Berit, who along with her husband has three children; and a son, Matthew.
