Attendees:
Lynn Boenker
Julie Doerfler
Karen Dismer
Jean Manteufel
Jim Moard
Joanne Moard
Kris Smith
Judy Snavely
Excused: Pastor Bauer
Items that may require Council action:
- OSM is recommending that our ministry team work
with the Housing Authority of Appleton and a family from the
community/church who qualify for Section 8, to rent the 4-bedroom home (Pastor
Lyle’s former house) as an outreach to the community. OSM will work with
Walt and the Housing Authority to set guidelines, interview possible
candidates, etc.
Items that may require budget/finance coordination: None
Important items of information:
- The attendees to the meeting this evening have
agreed to be the OSM team. Our goal
will be to review possible outreach opportunities for the members of FELC
and organize teams to fulfill those outreach opportunities.
- The focus this evening was the Fox Valley
Warming Shelter. FELC will sponsor this outreach Feb. 22-28 at the North
Site. Jim and Joanne shared information we needed to organize this
outreach opportunity.
- A schedule was established for announcements in
the bulletin, newsletter and temple talks. On Feb. 1 Pastor Bauer and
Pastor Dismer will announce to the congregation the
purpose/intent/dates/need for volunteers to help facilitate/organize the
shelter activities.
- Julie will create sign-up sheets for both sites
indicating times that volunteers are needed and food or money donation
opportunities. Julie will be at the table in the Gathering Area on Feb. 1.
Lynn will be at the table on Feb. 8 at the DS. Kris will be at the table
at the NS on Feb. 1 and 8 (and Feb. 15 if necessary).
- A list of evening meals, breakfast and snacks
was organized.
- Karen will give a temple talk on Feb. 8 at the
DS and a final temple talk/announcement will be made on Feb. 15
celebrating the support of the congregation, or to solicit more help if
needed. At this time we do not have anyone to give a temple talk at the NS
on Feb. 8 or 15. Information could be given during announcements rather
than through temple talks.
- The women’s circles and men’s groups will be
contacted in order to solicit support for this outreach.
- The warming shelter’s responsibilities include:
operating the shelter, providing trained professionals and core
volunteers, transportation the entire bedding, etc., and cleaning the
area.
